Abstract
In this session individual members of SAR meet to discuss strategies for supporting artistic researchers without a permanent institutional affiliation. As artistic research continues to expand beyond institutional settings, many researchers navigate freelance, independent, and hybrid professional contexts. This open session provides an opportunity to meet fellow SAR members, share experiences, and discuss ideas for how members can connect and engage beyond the annual conference.
The session will also include a conversation around the ongoing development of SAR's Individual Members' Initiative and online Community Area. Drawing on feedback gathered from members ahead of the conference, participants are invited to discuss how SAR can foster meaningful peer exchange, collaboration, and continuity throughout the year. The session will also introduce current developments related to the Community Area and provide a forum for broader conversations about membership, participation, and community within SAR. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute ideas and discuss how both digital and in-person spaces can support artistic researchers across diverse contexts.
The session is not a closed meeting and is open to anyone interested in SAR, its membership structures, and the role of community in supporting artistic research.
